Sound Studio 3 "is an easy-to-use Mac OS X application for
recording and editing audio digitally on your computer. Digitize tapes
and vinyl records, record live performances, create your own mixes
with crossfades, tweak the levels and EQ, apply digital effects, and
save in all major file formats with Sound Studio 3!" There is no need
to download the "Automation Plug-Ins" on the "Goodies" page. They are
included in the main Sound Studio 3.05 download. You WILL want
LAME, though, if you need to save as MP3. $80. Trial download can
be launched 10 times before requiring a registration
code. [tuaw]
# Adobe - Soundbooth is a beta of a simple audio-editing application. It can be used for: "Editing audio quickly, Cleaning up noisy audio, Visually identifying and removing unwanted sounds, Recording and polishing voiceovers, Adding effects and filters, Easily creating customized music--without musical expertise." 98 meg download that expands to 337 megs. Free, but apparently expires on April 24. The only part of Adobe's Production Studio that is currently available for the Mac. Runs on Intel Macs only, and Adobe has no plans to support PPC Macs.
# Patrick Stein - ScreenRecycler - a VNC server that allows another machine's VNC client to act as a second monitor for the server machine. Neat idea. Haven't tried it. Free pre-release version available. No hint of expected release date or price.
# Ironic Software - Yep is an iPhoto-like app to help keep track of images and PDFs. Scanning your paper documents into Yep is easy (if you have a scanner). Tags "Yep: Organize the documents that clutter your life." $34. Demo restricted to 25 documents. It auto-creates examples including Yep documentation. [applelinks]
# Jim Dalrymple at Macworld - Apple reports record-breaking $1 billion profit on record revenue of $7.1 billion for the quarter ending December 30, 2006. 1.6 million Macs sold. 21.1 million iPods. # I found "nat-ptouser3.uspto.gov" in my logs yesterday, having visited this site at 10:08am. Looks like they viewed the home page of the blog, then left. Think I'm going to get one of those cease and desist emails? Well, probably not. They came in on a Google search for "tor transmission torrent" (without the quotes), for which this blog was yesterday the first hit. # Bruce Tognazzini - The iPhone User Experience: A First Look - a user-interface expert reviews the iPhone UI. He likes calls, SMS, voice mail, music, and video, and web browserin, but thinks that mail needs to be better integrated with SMS and voicemail. He also thinks the map interface should know where you are. And, it's badly missing an external keyboard (good add-on functionality) and video out for a projector (which Steve Jobs demoed at MacWorld, but didn't list as one of the standard features). [daringfireball] # ALexandros Roussos at MacScoop - Multi-Touch powered Widescreen iPod and Tablet Mac on the way? - says that reliable sources expect Apple to deliver a widescreen iPod before the iPhone's June release and a tablet Mac in 2008. Both will use the iPhone's multi-touch technology. [macrumors]
