AirPort Extreme Ships

Wednesday, January 31, 2007

# Jalopnik - Zap, Lotus Team Up on Electric Crossover SUV - 644 hp, 155 mph, 350 miles on a charge, 10 minute recharge time. That's what Lotus is claiming for their new aluminum-bodied joint venture with ZAP. Doesn't say that in the article, but sounds like another ultracapacitor battery, but this time definitely not in a glorified golf cart. [gizmodo]

# fojjii at YouTube - Human Slighshot - Wow! Looks like fun. [gizmodo]

# Apple Press Releases - iPod shuffle Now Available in Five Brilliant Colors - all the excitement, and the closure of the Apple Store yesterday morning, were apparently about five iPod Shuffle colors. At least that's the only new press release. Yawn. [apple]

# MacUser - The AirPort Extreme is extremely shipping - this is the real news from yesterday. I've gotta wait for my next paycheck before I can afford one, but I need it. I just got a new DSL modem from my ISP, after convincing them that the one I've had since they started their DSL service many years ago was flaky. But my wifi router is also flaky. I'd just get a new one for $40, but the 802.11n and, more especially, the printer sharing of the AirPort Extreme, are wooing me. Oh, and if you're not going to buy the AirPort Extreme, but want to be able to use the full bandwidth of another 802.11n router, Apple's promised 802.11n Enabler is available for $1.99, complete with a list of machines that support it and how to tell if you already have it. To find it, go to the Apple Store, and type "802.11n" in the "Search" box at the top-left of the page. [macuser]

# I found Prey at the Apple Store (type "prey" in that search box). $50. A bit steep for my blood, for a game, but I am liking it, after going through two levels.

# Gizmodo - Zink Pocket Printer: iPhone Companion? - Polaroid has spun off a new company, Zink (Zero Ink), from their research labs. They have a printing technology (869K PDF) that prints without ink. They say their web site will go live today. No clue yet as to what the printers, or their special paper, will cost. Polaroid film has always been expensive. We'll see. [gizmodo]
