Above is the shipping package for the Radian SkyTone RST103 USB Skype phone that I received on Monday, 8 January, 2007 from von-phone.com. They call it the Yealink P8D Skype Phone. If you look on the label above, you can make out endicia.com/mac, a maker of mailing label printing software. The photos below show the phone's birth. Click on any image for the full resolution version. The phone is only a little bigger than a mouse. It comes with an earbud/microphone (not pictured) that allows handsfree use. To make the phone work with Skype, you download the SkyTone Driver, Skype for Mac OS X, unzip the file, open the contained .dmg, drag the SkyMACMate application to your application folder, plug in the phone, then start Skype and SkyMACMate. If all goes well, you'll see the "Let's Skype" message below on the phone. You also need to change Skype's "Audio" preferences to use the "USB Audio Device" for input, output, and ringing. |
